Placenta Previa/Accreta/Increta/Percreta are high-risk conditions where the placenta abnormally attaches to or invades the uterine wall, often causing severe, life-threatening maternal hemorrhage. Previous cesarean deliveries combined with placenta previa drastically increase risk, necessitating specialized, multidisciplinary care, early antenatal diagnosis, and planned cesarean-hysterectomy. ACOG ACOG +3 Key Definitions (Placenta Accreta Spectrum - PAS): Placenta Previa: The placenta covers all or part of the cervix. Placenta Accreta: The placenta attaches too deeply into the uterine wall (myometrium). Placenta Increta: The placenta attaches even more deeply, invading the muscle wall. Placenta Percreta: The placenta grows through the uterus, sometimes affecting nearby organs like the bladder.
